Airport Mendeleevo (Kunashir Island) took the first scheduled flight in the new terminal building

November 12, 2011 at the airport Mendeleevo (Kunashir Island, Sakhalin region). Landed plane An-24, carried out the flight Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk — South Kuril.

Passenger services performed in Permission to use the new terminal building, locked with the air traffic control tower. After the reconstruction of the airfield airport Mendeleevo be able to take aircraft An-24 and less so at any time and under any weather conditions.


As part of the renovation project and the construction of the airport were the following activities:
reconstructed surfaces of the runway and its extension to 2.05 km., taxiway, apron, facilities radio and lighting maintenance;
constructed buildings: office-passenger (SDR) with control towers (KDP), rescue station (ACC);
constructed: a sewage treatment plant, road patrol and guard the airport.

Renovation and construction of the airport have been made in the framework of the federal target program "Socio-economic development of the Kuril Islands (Sakhalin region) in 2007-2015".

November 20, 2011 the crew of the aircraft AN-26, equipped with flight control equipment, audited commissioning of lighting equipment (MTR) "Course 1".
