In Kabardino-Balkaria branch RusHydro concrete work began on the construction of fish ladders at the head backup node Aushigerskaya power plant.

The main work will be performed at the site in 2013, and the start-up, in agreement with the Rosrybolovstvo, planned for June 2014.
Fish ladder designed by JSC "Institute Hydroproject" (included in the holding RusHydro), is designed to pass fish upstream hydroelectric spawning grounds and to secure a stingray fish and fry them back into the tailrace. The total path length fish ladder will reach 150 meters, and it will consist of 35 cameras. The bottom of each chamber is located 30 cm above the bottom of the previous one. The rate of flow of water will lower the barriers of walls and stones. It is assumed that water for the fish ladder will flow continuously to a specific flow rate.
Fish will come from the lower bay in the first (the lowest) camera. Then, rise against the flow to the second chamber and so on until the upstream side. In total, the fish have to climb 11 meters. The design has two spacious chambers rest, where the low rate of water flow will allow the fish to stop to gain strength.
