Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant has launched a new converter


Chelyabinsk, August 23. JSC "Mechel" announces the launch of a new converter number 2 oxygen-converter shop at the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant.
Launch of the new converter will increase the weight of the melt from 140 to 152 tons, and reduce the processing time melting. Converter is equipped with modern flue gas cleaning system for maximum filtration rate and reduces emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere.
The cost of the project is the reconstruction of the converter 1, 289 billion rubles.

Replacing the converter number 2 is the first step in a comprehensive program of reconstruction capacity of oxygen-converter shop (CCC) Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant. The program lasts until 2013, and provides for the complete replacement of the three converters, gas exhaust ducts and infrastructure equipment. After the completion of the reconstruction of annual steel production to increase by CCC 950 000 tons to 4,550 tons. Total cost of 173.8 million U.S. dollars (5.1 billion rubles *).

Today, manufacturing complex oxygen-converter shop includes three converters, two high-performance continuous casting machine (CCM). As part of a comprehensive program of technical re-equipment, operating at the plant in the CCC also is building unit "ladle-furnace", a vacuum degasser and caster number 5, which is expected to produce a template for the main investment project of Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant — universal rolling mill.
