The second locomotive Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ) — EP20-002 sent to the 5000-kilometer run on the test site VNIIZhT Scherbinka (Moscow region).
Two-system passenger electric locomotive EP20-002, the assembly of which was completed on NEVZ (part of ZAO "Transmashholding") in March of this year, sent to the test site VNIIZhT Scherbinka. Here it will be operational in the amount of mileage 5000 km, which is the most important part of the testing of new locomotives.
According to the current schedule, in September 2012 EP20 must obtain a certificate of conformity, and in the 4th quarter — to begin deliveries of electric locomotives for Russian Railways.
At the same time continue to test electric locomotive EP20-001. To date, this locomotive was towing power tests at speeds up to 120 km / h, hygiene tests to ensure that the parameters of the microclimate in the cabins in winter, and a test run. Designers start with an electric locomotive on a speed test site Belorechenskaya — Maikop (North-Caucasus Railways) — will be held here towing power tests at speeds up to 160 km / h and summer hygiene test.
EP20 — Russia’s first two-system locomotive, able to drive passenger trains at speeds up to 200 km / h Locomotive is equipped with induction motor drive based on IGBT-transistors. Ongoing technical solutions will enable several times to reduce the amount of maintenance, increase the time between repairs, and provide energy savings.
EP20 will be the basis for the electric base platform on which to set up a family of passenger and freight locomotives of various types. The concept of the base platform of the new generation of locomotives will bring the unification of parts and systems of the future passenger passenger locomotives of a new series of EP2 and EP3 to 85% and freight locomotives 2ES4, 2ES5 up to 70-75%.
