The new equipment will be provided with the possibility of parallel operation of interconnected power systems of Siberia and the Far East, which will significantly increase the reliability of electricity supply Trans-Baikal region, including the Trans-Siberian and Baikal-Amur Mainline.

Currently, the combined power system (UPS), Siberia and the Far East operate in isolation from each other. In case of emergency situations in the electrical networks of the East often are violated electricity consumers in eastern Siberia IPS. To solve this problem, the Federal Grid Company will perform the expansion and modernization of the existing 220 kV substation Mogocha, using the most advanced achievements in the field of power electronics.

At a power plant will be installed insert a direct current (VAC) is designed to convert AC to DC and then converting DC to AC. VAC will provide electricity flows between Siberia and East of 200 MW. As new equipment is capable of stabilizing the voltage levels of the networks, so it does not need additional sources of reactive power.

The expansion of the 220 kV Mogocha includes the construction of new buildings for the equipment vac and complete switchgear gas-insulated 220 kV. In addition, a power plant will be installed four new 220 kV transformers with total capacity of 640 MVA. As a result, the installed capacity of the substation will increase by more than a factor of 2. All work is scheduled for completion in late 2012.

Substation 220 kV Mogocha installed capacity of 282 MVA was built in 1987. It provides the traction power supply substations Trans-Siberian Railway, as well as feeds Mogocha city with a population of 12,000 people.
