Hiddink at a Glance

March 3, 2010 the Russian team had the last match under Guus Hiddink. The contract with the Dutch specialist has not broken, but, judging by the words of the new RFU president Sergei Fursenko, until July 1, 2010 — date of completion of the agreement with Hiddink — the national team to hold friendly, much more formal game is going. This means that the time for taking stock of Guus Ivanovich, as Hiddink called in our country, is now.

Emotional subtext almost four years of work 65-year-old, however, leave out the brackets and turn to the figures. And they have prepared us for at least one surprise. As head coach of the Russian national team Hiddink lingered longer than any of his predecessors! Hardly anyone in the summer of 2006, it could suggest, in fact, if you remember, the public opinion at the time was divided into two camps: the supporters of the idea of inviting a foreign specialist for the post of coach of their implacable opponents.

Not surprisingly, the number of consecutive games held at the head of the Russian national team Hiddink among all his predecessors firmly holds the first place — 39. Only Oleg Romantsev boasts a large number of matches (54), but, if you remember, the idol of Spartak fans led the first team of the country twice, from 1994 to 1996 and from 1998 to 2002 st.

In the end I would like to bring a few more numbers — namely, the average number of goals scored and conceded. For almost four years the Dutchman led the Russian team of our players scored an average of 1.7 goals per game, and passed exactly one goal. As a comparison, at the same Romantseva these numbers look much preferable: nearly 2.1 goals scored per game vs. 0.83 missed. However, you will agree that all of these indicators are not more than the figures that are likely to be forgotten as soon as you read this article. But the bronze medal Euro 2008, Hiddink won, do not be erased from the memory of millions of Russian fans even in case of victory of our team at the World Championships in 2018.
