Concern PVO "Almaz-Antey" has successfully completed the State acceptance tests of the prototype of the Doppler weather radar of the new generation of "DMRL-C."

Serial production of "DMRL-C" will be organized on the included Concern JSC "NPO" LEMZ ", which carried out the development of the weather radar.

Doppler weather radar "DMRL-C" is the first operational weather radar network that uses technology to complex signals previously used only in the locators air traffic control, and military products, and has no foreign counterparts. This provides a weather radar and delivery within a radius of 250 km in the operational mode (every few minutes) meteorological data in the form of various cards.

According to experts, the use of complex signals opens up opportunities to create the next generation of weather radar. Introduction to "DMRL-C" dual polarization mode also significantly expanded its capabilities by obtaining a fundamentally new information about the structure of the observed meteorological objects. This information will be available for the first time domestic meteorologists on-line observations.

In 2008, the Russian Government adopted two federal programs to create the meteorological radar network that provided a radar cards all over the country and meeting the modern requirements of consumer information.

In the framework of the federal program "Modernization of the EU ATM Russia (2009-2015 gg.)" And "Creation and development of a monitoring system of geophysical conditions over the territory of the Russian Federation in 2008-2015." Capacity for more than 150 radars "DMRL-C." As a result of creating a single meteolokatsionnogo field, as well as the combination of information from foreign networks Russian weather forecasters will be able to significantly improve the accuracy of their predictions.

It is worth recalling that the meteorological radar network of the USSR actively evolved since the mid 60’s to the early 80-ies of the last century, and in its heyday, there were a total of more than 120 sets of rather simple but effective magnetron radar MRL-1, IRL-2 and MRL-5.

Currently, the networks of radar observations in Russia has declined and there are only 13 sets of MRL-2, and 27 sets of MRL-5, all of MRL-2 fully developed technical resource in the near future they will be decommissioned. MRL-5 development ’70s as hopelessly out of date and need to be replaced long ago by modern radar systems.

For comparison, it should be noted that overseas completes the creation of the modern automated network of radar observations. In the United States automatically run of 158 magnetron radars, and in England and Ireland — 15 SCLC, in France and Germany on 16 IRL. Only in recent years, experimental work on the use of complex signals in the weather radar to increase capacity while maintaining the resolving power inherent in simple signals.
