In St. Petersburg, opened the XIII International Winter Festival "Arts Square" under the direction of renowned conductor, artistic director of the St. Petersburg Shostakovich Philharmonic Yuri Temirkanov.
According to the city’s culture committee, in this year’s festival will bring together young and eminent artists, many of whom had come to St. Petersburg for the first time. For example, the first time on the banks of the Neva Italian pianist Alessio Bax, who now will play in the Great Hall of the Philharmonic’s opening concert. Among the world-recognized names — winner of the "Grammy" and "Oscar" violinist Joshua Bell, conductor Vladimir Jurowski and others.
Maestro Temirkanov will take part in the festival twice. Today, at the opening, he will conduct the orchestra in a concert version number 24 for Piano and Orchestra Mozart and the symphonic poem "The Life of a Hero" by Strauss.
December 25, the closing day of the festival, will be conducted by Yuri Temirkanov execution stage cantata "Carmina Burana" by the German composer Carl Orff.
