In Tunkinskaya Valley (Buryatia) started construction of the largest gamma-ray observatory

This year, Tunkinskaya Valley (Republic of Buryatia) started construction of the largest gamma-ray observatory. Its approximate value of — 1.5 billion rubles. Already, with the support of Italy and Germany for the observatory purchased 24 tons of scientific equipment. According to the director of the Research Institute of Applied Physics, Irkutsk State University Nicholas Budneva, in the next two to five years, the observatory will become a leading world center for the study of high energy.

— In the universe, there are objects that have one second to generate billions of times more energy than the sun for its existence. Fortunately, these objects are far enough away, whether they are slightly closer, the earth would simply evaporate. But the nature of such powerful astrophysical objects is still not clear. It is only known that the Earth comes particles with energies a billion times greater than the energy of the particles produced by the world’s most powerful accelerator — the Large Hadron Collider. The study of the flow of particles that carry information to us about the most powerful energy release processes of the universe — is a fundamental problem of astrophysics for the last decades. Tunkinskaya Valley will be among five leading centers for the study of these processes, — said the scientist.
Head of the "noosphere" Dmitry Semyonov said that the long-awaited opening of the Irkutsk Planetarium planned for the first quarter of 2013.
— Already, the museum mounted equipment "noosphere", installed and tested the telescope for the observatory, a week ago, finished work on installation of the projection dome of the planetarium. With all these major processes there is one "but". At the moment we do not have the necessary equipment to run properly planetarium. Consequently, the hall will be mothballed until either or will be used as a public lecture. Despite the fact that all construction work is completed, cosmetic changes now taking place, as well as installation and configuration of the equipment, the question with the launch of the planetarium is open.
We are actively being sought sponsors. As for the museum, then, according to Dmitry Semyonov, all purchased equipment of the highest quality, but by embracing multimedia museum quality and has a variety of features. Now Irkutsk studio "Foresight" wrote the first program for the visit. In addition, the museum An interactive model of Lake Baikal. Employees hope that in the future the museum will claim the title of multifunctional educational center.
As the director of the Astronomical Observatory of ISU Sergei Yaz, in the astronomical sense, the next decade will not be very interesting.
— Highlights such as the transit of Venus across the disk of the sun, two of which were in the previous decade, will not. Next year is expected to three lunar eclipses and two solar, however, in Irkutsk they will not be seen. Generally, the next total solar eclipse that will be visible in Russia, will not happen until 2030, and in Irkutsk and not before 2060. However, Irkutsk, astronomers do not miss any of the solar eclipse in 2004, organizing an expedition to the far corners of the earth from the Republic of Kiribati to Easter Island. Next year, a total solar eclipse can be seen from equatorial Africa, the expedition there is already planned.
