Iskander placed near Kaliningrad in time

The task of placing in the Kaliningrad region of tactical missile "Iskander" will be completed on time, said Friday the Force Commander Aerospace Defence Lt. Gen. Oleg Ostapenko.

"The weapon itself (a complex" Iskander ") is unique and is able to solve problems, not only in the suppression of the possibility to deploy missile defense, but also a number of other problems," — Ostapenko said, commenting on the statement by the President of the Russian Federation on the possibility of the deployment of "Iskander" in the Kaliningrad region.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius said that Lithuania is concerned about the statements of the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev about the likely placement of missiles in the Kaliningrad region "Iskander".

On Wednesday, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia does not refuse dialogue with the U.S. and NATO’s European missile defense system, but will act according to the actual course of events.

The president announced a series of measures of military-technical nature that the Russian side would take in the event of failure of the talks on missile defense. In particular, it is to deploy missiles on the western borders of Russia.

The Russian president also said that in the case of the deployment of the U.S. missile defense Russia reserves the right to withdraw from the START-3 and refusal of further disarmament.

Republican Senator John McCain expressed the view that relations between the U.S. and Russia after the Russian president’s statements on missile defense will deteriorate and the parties will be forced to start a new "reset" of relations.
