Russian speed skater Ivan Skobrev was the best in the 1500 meters on the first day of the third stage of the World Cup in Heerenveen, Holland.
Skobrev, speaking in the seventh race, clocked 1 minute 45.81 seconds, ahead of nearest rival Kelda Nyuisna by 0.18 seconds.
"I’m glad I was able to take symbolic revenge — admitted Ivan Skobrev. — In their homeland in Chelyabinsk, in the first stage of the World Cup we lost "poltorashku" the Dutch, but here they have left behind. The situation is slowly improving. We had planned to work on acceleration, and now it seems to be impossible. Today was a little more confident acceleration, a little better run. He feels, too, is slowly coming to that by which we had hoped. I hope this victory will give confidence not only to me personally and to our coaching staff, but the guys who worked with me all summer long. "
In Heerenveen Skobrev is scheduled to speak at a distance of 10,000 meters, as well as take part in the team pursuit.
