Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) announces the commissioning of a continuous hot-dip galvanizing (ANGTS) at the production site MMK-Atakas in Istanbul (Turkey). ANGTS launch marks the completion of the metallurgical complex MMK-Atakas, erected at two sites — in Iskenderun and Istanbul. Construction of the complex in Iskenderun was completed in the spring of 2011

The design capacity of ANGTS in Istanbul is 450 thousand tons of galvanized steel a year. Production units will be available to consumers, as well as used as a tackle for a further production line coating line with capacity of 200 thousand tons per year, which was put into operation in May 2011

A similar unit was put into operation earlier in Iskenderun. Having two ANGTS expands production capacity of the enterprise and will produce metal for specialized market segments, particularly for manufacturers of home appliances, and in the long term — for the automobile enterprises.

Production capacity of the metallurgical complex MMK-Atakas designed for an annual production of 2.3 million tons of hot-rolled coils, 750,000 tons of cold-rolled coils, 900,000 tons of galvanized coils and 400,000 tonnes of coated coils.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of OJSC "MMK" Victor Rašnikov said: "Investment in the project exceeded $ 2 billion on its technological equipment that is unparalleled anywhere in Turkey. Its production capacity will meet the growing needs of the Turkish market in a variety of steel products, as well as to export the company’s products to foreign markets, particularly in the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Europe. It is also important that the construction company almost did not affect the global financial and economic crisis. All objects were erected in the maximum as planned and investment plans. "

OJSC "Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works" is one of the world’s largest steel producers and is a leader among Russia’s steel industry. The company’s assets in Russia include a large steel producing complex encompassing the entire production chain, from preparation of iron ore to downstream processing of rolled steel. MMK turns out a broad range of steel products with a predominant share of higher value-added. In 2010 MMK Group produced 11.4 million tons of steel and 10.4 million tons of commercial products.
