The regiment of S-400 will be on duty in the Kaliningrad region immediately after the completion of tactical exercises in the Astrakhan region — said in Wednesday’s press-service of the Western Military District.
Russian Army currently has two S-400 regiments, both stationed in Moscow (in Elektrostal and Dmitrov). Delivery of the third and fourth complexes is expected in 2012. Features of the complex S-400 were first demonstrated in the framework of the exercise of the CIS "Combat Commonwealth-2011" in September of this year.
Anti-aircraft missile system of the new generation S-400 "Triumph" is intended to destroy aircraft, jammers, AWACS aircraft, reconnaissance aircraft, aircraft of strategic and tactical aircraft, tactical and operational-tactical ballistic missiles, medium-range ballistic missiles, hypersonic targets, and other current and future air attack.
The complex has a much greater tactical and technical capabilities in comparison with C-300, as well as with any other air defense missile systems of this type — and for efficiency, and over the affected area, and in the diversity of the targeted objectives.
