Main Command of the Russian Navy approved the draft long-term predeskizny destroyer

Main Command of the Russian Navy approved the draft long-term predeskizny destroyer far sea zone, which will be the largest in 24 years the ship, designed in the country. According to the newspaper "Izvestia", the project provided the destroyer St Petersburg project design office "North." Project designers have to protect the ship, and then within two or three years to prepare technical documentation, work out the appearance and weapons destroyer.

According to preliminary data, the long-term displacement destroyer of about 12,000 tons, which is comparable with such a parameter in missile cruisers Project 1164 "Atlas" (ships of this project — "Varyag", "Moscow" and "Marshal Ustinov" — are part of the Pacific, the Black Sea and Northern fleets). The new ship will be universal: it will get missiles, anti-submarine, anti-aircraft and anti-missile weapons and be able to support ground forces in coastal areas.

In particular, it is expected that the promising destroyer will be installed anti-ship missiles, cruise missiles for attacking ground targets and future naval variants of the system of air and missile defense S-500 "Prometheus". In addition, the ship will get a powerful sonar and torpedo tubes. The main task of the new destroyer in the first phase will be the escort helicopter type "Mistral", while the second — advanced aircraft carriers.

In June 2012, Roman Trocenko, then led the United Shipbuilding Corporation, said that in 2016 will put the first destroyer with elements of missile and space defense. According to him, the "Northern Shipyard" and "Baltic Shipyard" is still planned to build a series of six ships, the design of which is already underway. Presumably, the new destroyers will have nuclear power plants.
