Ukrainians will be provided with fruit and vegetables. This year, farmers harvested about 9.1 million tons of vegetables, 23 million tons of potatoes, 1.9 million tons of fruits and berries, and 490,000 tons of grapes.
This allowed not only to provide domestic needs, but also to promote import substitution. This was announced by Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.
"This year we have a good performance for the production of vegetables, fruits, berries and grapes. Example, vegetable production is about 9.1 million tons. According to our estimates, in the last 5 years, it is the second largest crop. Potato production is 23 million tons , fruits and berries — 1.9 million tons of grapes — 490 thousand tons ", — said Mykola Prysyazhnyuk also noted that another current record was the apple harvest at the level of 1 million tons.
Such productivity enabled the domestic market and successfully export of fruit and berry products abroad. This year‘s apple exports exceeded imports for the first time. The Minister stressed that the import substitution occurs gradually and vegetable production. "In this context, we are also moving towards self-sufficiency in vegetable greenhouses, actively promoting the greenhouse. Only this year put into operation 38 acres of new high-tech greenhouses. This, in particular, will get a harvest of greenhouse vegetables for the year at 445,000 tons, which is 12% more than last year ", — Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.
In addition, over the past two years, the government has paid great attention to the development of agricultural market infrastructure. Across the country, built a vegetable-, fruit-, potato storages, wholesale markets of agricultural products. "General capacity for storage of vegetables for today is 239 thousand tons, and is planned to increase to nearly 1 million tonnes by 2014. Potato storage can simultaneously store 136,000 tons, and by 2014 this capacity will increase to 248,000 tons. Overall capacity for fruit storage today is 315 thousand tons by the end of this year will be in operation for another 10 fruit storage, "- said the head of the department. The Minister stressed the importance of wholesale markets of agricultural products. During 2010-2012, the status of the wholesale market of agricultural products wholesale markets provided 11 — Lviv, Kyiv, Donetsk, is already functioning markets, and in Kiev, Kharkov, Odessa, Kherson, Rivne, Luhansk, Mykolaiv regions in Mariupol.
