Mechel announced the successful trial production of rail steel by CMP Urbs

JSC "Mechel» (NYSE: MTL), a leading Russian mining and metals companies, announces the launch of trials for the production of hot-rolled steel rail universal rolling mill (Urbs) Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant.

During hot tests successfully conducted the first rolling of rails R-65 100-meter.
This is the first type of reclaimed railway rolling, which is able to produce a universal rolling mill. The further development of the production of steel rail will be in accordance with the accepted schedule.

The total production capacity of the new mill more than 1 million tons per year structural shapes and rail products. With its access to the design performance rail shipments increased wear resistance and contact fatigue for a combined speed and high-speed traffic, as well as rails for use in low-temperature conditions will be up to 400,000 tonnes per year. The new products Urbs promotes the development of related industries in Russia, will provide JSC "Russian Railways" and the enterprises of the construction industry of metal products of high quality at competitive prices and reduce their dependence on imports. In addition, the commissioning of the mill solves a number of social issues at the regional level, including through the creation of new jobs.
