At the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ, part of ZAO "Transmashholding") released two-system locomotive EP20 passenger number 002, created in the engineering center "TRTrans" organized by TMH in collaboration with the French company Alstom Transport.
Currently, the locomotive is prepared to conduct commissioning tests of "VELNII" to complete them in the institute will be conducted preliminary tests (against the terms of reference, the static and dynamic tests).
EP20 — the first Russian locomotive able to drive passenger trains at speeds up to 200 km / h
Locomotive is equipped with induction motor drive based on IGBT-transistors. Ongoing technical solutions will enable several times to reduce the amount of maintenance, increase the time between repairs, and provide energy savings. The design allows the EP20 electric locomotive in two versions — designed for speeds of 160 and 200 km / h EP20 is the basis for the underlying platform locomotives on which to base the family of passenger and freight locomotives of various types. The concept of the base platform of the new generation of locomotives will bring the unification of parts and systems of the future passenger passenger locomotives of a new series of EP2 and EP3 to 85% and freight locomotives 2ES4, 2ES5 up to 70-75%. May 27, 2010 TMH was signed with JSC "Russian Railways" contract to supply for the needs of the railway company in 2012-2020 200 EP20 electric locomotives. It is planned that during the period 2012 — 2013’s, 36 locomotives will be transferred to OAO "RZD" and used for the organization of passenger traffic on the route Moscow-Sochi, including the period of the Winter Olympic Games.
