History Vyborg Shipyard began in 1947 in the post-war period, the whole country was involved in the restoration industry: actively repaired old plants and build new. Two years after the start of construction in Vyborg already acted hull shop and three slipways — facilities for the creation of the ship and its launch. At the 1949 planned production of two barges, but the plant has 8, and the following year — 50.
Where are you going, "Odyssey"?
More — more. In 1954, the stocks fell head-first landing craft. In the following decades, factory-built ships rescue, search and research vessels, and many other types of floating transportation. And at the end of 1970 Wagon began to build floating drilling rigs for exploration and production of oil and gas.
Early 90s was a time of great changes in the life of the plant. In 1993 it was privatized. In Vyborg actively engaged in the search for new customers, as the former were left without the necessary funds. Soon managed to conclude with the Norwegian company "Moss Technology" (now — "Moss Maritime") contract for the repair and modernization of floating drilling rig "Odyssey." In a few years it has evolved into unparalleled project in the world — a space rocket launch complex "Sea Launch", that is the launch site on the water.
In 1997, 75.6% of HCP acquired the Norwegian shipbuilding company "Kvaerner". The experience of foreign control went FAZ benefit: the system of planning and accountability closer to Western standards. The plant has combined their forces and get rid of excess equipment. After 3 years, the Norwegians decided to sell 13 yards, including Vyborg. And in 2000 signed an agreement to acquire stake in VSZ Russian shipbuilding holding "Ako BARSS Group".
On the economic activity of the enterprise changes and if reflected, the better. From 2000 to 2006, customers were delivered 7 vessels to service the drilling platforms, was also executed a contract to build tankers for 6 companies from Kazakhstan. Total displacement of each of the tanker was 72 tons — 1.3 times more than the legendary "Titanic."
FAZ was actively involved in various programs for the development of the shelf, for example, in the construction of Russia’s first offshore ice-resistant stationary platform "Prirazlomnaya" capable of operating in harsh Arctic conditions. In addition, in Vyborg mastered a new market niche — launched high-speed patrol boat "Harpoon".
In the second half of the 2000s. it was decided to completely re-orient production capacity of the plant for the construction of platforms and vessels for the oil and gas industry. In 2007, on "Gazprom" received an order for a drilling rig for the development of the Shtokman field in the Barents Sea. But the first platform, released in 2010, the customer is sent to Sakhalin — the conclusion of an international agreement on Shtokman postponed. The company expects to further contract with "Gazprom", but because of the uncertainty in the development of the shelf idle. Most of the 1,600 plant workers sitting around.
The situation at the plant has started to improve in 2012, when the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has acquired a 80% stake in the plant for 1.8 billion rubles. In February, USC and Vyborg plant signed a contract to build two diesel-powered icebreakers, the cost of which will amount to 8 billion rubles. They must be submitted in May and October 2015 This is a double-decked vessel ship displacement of about 10 tons, equipped with a helipad. Its length will be 116 m, width — 26.5 m Icebreakers will be able to blaze a trail through the ice thickness of up to five feet. A major contract to help overcome financial difficulties FAZ and provide the download shops for several years to come.
