Peugeot and Mitsubishi expanded in Kaluga

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has allocated a loan of 320 million euros alliance Peugeot-Citroen and Mitsubishi to build a new plant in Kaluga. Enterprise capacity of 125 000 vehicles will start producing the first batch of cars in 2015.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a consortium of five large European banks have approved a loan of 320 million euros ($ 425 million) for the construction of a second plant "PSMA Rus’, which brings together cars Peugeot, Citroen and Mitsubishi.  

According to the bank, the loan will be divided into two parts. First, in the amount of 110 million euro and ruble credit equal to the equivalent of 60 million euros, PSMA receive directly from the European Bank for a term of seven years. The second tranche of EUR 150 million allocated automakers syndicate of five banks, which included Unicredit Bank AG, Credit Industriel et Commercial, Intesa SanPaolo, Raiffeisen Bank International AG and Societe Generale. Loan term was five years.

The new facility with a capacity of 125,000 cars will include two assembly lines, as well as welding and painting workshop. The first batch of cars will go off the assembly line in 2015.

Kaluga plant, which produces cars under the brands Peugeot, Citroen and Mitsubishi, began producing the first batch at the end of April 2010. The design capacity of the company amounted to 125,000 cars per year, expandable to 300,000 cars.

EBRD is financing the second phase of the project, the total amount of investment in which is 470 million euros.

"The new facility will create an additional 3,000 jobs and approve the request to the local production of cars in Russia", — said the managing director of the Bank for Industry and Trade, Alan Pilloux.

Expansion of production and its further localization meet the conditions of the new agreement on industrial assembly signed Peugeot-Citroen and Mitsubishi in the spring of last year, among other foreign companies operating in Russia.

The new conditions of industrial assembly imply that the automaker gets an additional 8 years for duty-free import of automotive components, and in return agrees to build new or upgrade existing production capacity in Russia to localize the production of engines and transmissions, stamping body parts, and an engineering center in the country to produce at least 300,000 cars , at least 30% of which must be installed engines in Russia. Localization for new production is provided at 55% and the current — 60%.

In addition, for three years, auto companies will be able to collect 5% of the cars SKD method.
