The main element of the chassis is a diesel engine KAMAZ-740.31-240 240 hp and displacement of 10.85 liters. Chassis is equipped with wheels the size of 14.75/80 R20 and avtopodkachki system. Suspension has leaf springs. At curb weight of 11.6 tons of "Highlander-K" can be dispersed on the highway and 90 km / h, the payload does not exceed a 1-ton

Highlander-K is based on a cabover KAMAZ-4326, however, developers are able to make the engine bay a little forward, which provided the so-called "half-meter of life." This is largely predetermined the shape of the car. That car design with its sharp the descending line of the hood caused most discussion. Developers explained this decision by saying that such a line of the hood allows better visibility of the road right in front of the vehicle and, therefore, facilitate the work of the driver in the highlands.

Body of the car, which is a bronekapsuly, protects personnel from defeat 7.62h54 mm caliber bullets, appropriate class 5 standard GOST R50963-69, as well as explosive devices weighing up to 2 kg of TNT. In tests on Mine Protection developers held another undermining of the armored car with an explosive device weighing 7 kg of TNT. The results were good, but the damage to the crew on the brink. In a real situation, depending on many different factors may be lethal to some crew members. Therefore confirmed and guaranteed mine protection remained at the level of 2 kg.

The main requirements of the development have been increased mine protection for the crew, the use in the highlands, the unification of units and units with serial machines to reduce the cost of production and ease of maintenance. That is, the main "consumers" of the car, in case it is delivered to the customer, will be units of Russian Interior Troops in the North Caucasus, reports TrucksPlanet.com.
