Transmashholding and Alstom delivered Rossiyskm Railways (RZD), the first electric locomotive EP20. The ceremony took place at the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ, part of TransMashHolding), which produces EP20.
EP20 opens the first line of joint products Transmashholding and Alstom, developed by specialists of the engineering center TRTrans. It is a joint venture (JV) TransMashHolding and Alstom Transport, on a parity basis, is engaged in the development of new models of rolling stock for railways.
EP20 — the first Russian locomotive, able to drive passenger trains at speeds up to 200 km per hour. Previously, such locomotives in Russia have not been made.
Two-system high-speed passenger locomotive EP20 "Olympus" Novocherkassk now made to order "Russian railways". In the first place it will be used for transport support the Olympic Games "Sochi — 2014". During the tests showed high electric speed — up to 230 km / h. This will allow for 2 hours to reduce the time of passenger trains from Moscow to Sochi.
The main advantage is its dual-system electric locomotives. Locomotive capable of running on the lines which electrified both constant and alternating current. If the train route passes through areas, operating at a different kind, no longer need to change locomotives. This means you do not need two electric locomotives, the time of replacement and labor railroad. Locomotive is equipped with asynchronous traction drive, which allows you several times to reduce the amount of maintenance and provides significant savings of electric energy.
In the period 2012-2013. 36 locomotives will be transferred to Railways and used to organize passenger traffic on the route Moscow-Sochi, including the period of the Winter Olympic Games.

The second joint project implemented by TMH and Alstom, is the main freight electric locomotive with AC asynchronous traction motors 2ES5. Electric locomotives of this type in Russia also been made. The first locomotive was demonstrated 2ES5 rredsedatelyu Government of Russia Dmitry Medvedev during his visit to NEVZ.
