Railways, Transmashholding and Alstom signed a memorandum of understanding to develop new freight locomotive.

JSC "Russian Railways" (RZD), ZAO "Transmashholding" (TMH) and the company Alstom Transport signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a new cargo electric AC induction traction motor 2ES5. The press service of the Russian Railways. Signing a contract for the supply is expected to fall 2011.
According to the protocol, electric output generated will be held in Russia, in the squares of the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant. Production of key components of electric locomotive, including traction equipment, will be located at the Russian enterprises. It is planned that the prototype locomotive will appear in April 2011.
ZAO "Transmashholding" brings together transport engineering, producing electric locomotives, diesel locomotives, passenger and freight cars, locomotive and marine diesel engines, subway cars, electric and diesel trains, car casting, components and equipment for railway rolling stock. 100% of ZAO "Transmashholding" consolidated in the Dutch company Breakers Investments. JSC "Russian Railways" owns a blocking stake Breakers. Also signed a purchase contract, under which the French company Alstom acquires a blocking stake (25% +1 share) in the share capital of the sole shareholder of ZAO "Transmashholding" — the company Breakers Investments BV.
Alstom Transport is specialized in manufacturing of trains and railway equipment. Alstom Transport is a subsidiary of French group Alstom SA — manufacturer and supplier of equipment for energy infrastructure. In addition to the transport engineering, Alstom produces generators and turbines for hydro, nuclear and thermal power plants.
