Realization of the project to create picosecond lasers for cutting materials

Marking Technology picosecond lasers was developed by Russian scientists, physicists Paul and Alexander Polynkinym Tselikov at the University of Arizona. To further the implementation of the project, scientists have chosen Troitsk— One of the world centers of laser technology.

Currently, the market is busy cutting materials high-power fiber lasers. They are cheaper than other lasers through the use of fiber technology and the lack of sophisticated optical components and crystals. But existing fiber laser pulse characterized by long, which leads to deformation of the material during cutting.

The technology is based on the use of special high-phosphate glass fibers for the generation and amplification without distortion of ultrashort optical pulses. The degree of doping of glasses used by several orders of magnitude higher than the corresponding attainable for quartz glass. As a result, the fiber element of length approximately 20 cm is capable of generating radiation of high power up to 10 watts.

Demand for the products of the project is confirmed by a Chinese company Intelume, ready to buy 200 systems per year.
