Russia firmly retains second place in terms of arms exports

TSAMTO According to preliminary data, the volume of Russian arms exports in 2012 amounted to 13.3 billion dollars, or 19% of global supply. With this indicator Russia takes the second place among the world's major arms exporters.

To its credit, Russia should be noted that good results for 2012 will be achieved by an almost complete loss of the Iranian market, a complete loss of market Libya, disruption of supplies on Syria (one example — refurbished Mi-25, which is only the "tip" of the iceberg in of possible short supply weapons to Syria, especially in the second half of 2012), as well as the actual displacement from the Russian defense market in Saudi Arabia, the United States of America.

In general, over the past four-year period (2008-2011). TSAMTO estimates the identified amount of Russian arms exports in the amount of 29.8 billion dollars (13.7% of world exports, second place). In the coming four-year period (2012-2015). Volume of Russian arms exports to reach at least 32.5 billion dollars (12%, also the second place).

First place in the global arms market by a considerable margin from the competition held by the U.S.. The volume of the identified military exports to the United States in 2012 TSAMTO projected at $ 25.517 billion dollars, or 36.54% of the total world exports of defense products. In 2013 (on the basis of existing contracts and stated intentions to purchase) the volume of U.S. exports are projected to total 24.114 billion dollars (40.05% of total world exports).

Even without the new short-term contracts, even now, according to the existing order book and intentions for the direct delivery, the military, U.S. exports will increase substantially from the middle of the period: in 2014 — 32.653 billion dollars (51.57% of the world total) and in 2015 — USD 32.238 billion (41.6% of the global total). In the future, it is likely to reach the level of the annual export volume of $ 35 billion or more (up to 40 billion dollars) due to the practical implementation of long-term supply contracts, primarily with the countries of the Middle East.

In general, over the past four-year period (2008-2011). TSAMTO estimates the identified amount of U.S. military exports amounting to USD 83.436 billion (38.36% of the world total). In the coming four-year period (2012-2015). U.S. exports amount to at least USD 114 522 000 000 (42.28%).


Third place in the 2012, according to the forecast TSAMTO to take France — 5.613 billion dollars or 8.04% of total world supply.

Occupies the category of "unknown" (tenders, the results of which are not yet announced) — 24.86 billion dollars, which represents 9.18 % of the total estimated volume of arms exports in this period. Most of this amount is for delivery in 2015 — about 19 billion dollars.
