Russian experts to build the first nuclear power plant in Nigeria

   

MOSCOW, June 4 — RIA Novosti. Agreement on the construction of the first nuclear power plant by Russian design on the African continent was signed between the Russian government and the government of Nigeria in the forum "Atomexpo-2012."

The agreement is a framework and defines the basic principles and conditions for cooperation in the construction of nuclear power plants in Nigeria. This is the first agreement on the construction of Russian design nuclear power plants on the African continent. On the part of Russian agreement signed by the Deputy Director General of the State Corporation "Rosatom" Nikolai Spassky, from Nigeria — Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of Nigeria Franklin Erepamo Osaysay.

The agreement requires us to further cooperation between Russia and Nigeria to prepare a comprehensive program of NPP construction, the creation of all elements of the infrastructure of the system of state regulation of nuclear and radiation safety in Nigeria. One important area of cooperation is the creation of the necessary educational infrastructure in Nigeria in the field of nuclear physics and preparation of Nigerian professionals.
