Russian Internet audience in the regions for the year increased by 20%

Russian Internet audience in the past year has increased in the regions of 20%, according to the study of Russia’s largest Internet company "Yandex", published Thursday.

According to the fund "Public opinion", as contained in study, "Yandex", just as the average monthly Internet audience in Russia in 2011 increased by 17%, to 54.5 million. As noted in the study "Yandex", 93% of all new Russian users live outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

 

 

Despite the rapid growth of the Internet audience in regions where internet penetration is still significantly inferior to Moscow and St. Petersburg. Thus, in the two largest Russian cities of internet penetration exceeds 65%, the average for the federal district, the figure is 44%.

Thus the price of Internet access in the regions are still significantly higher than in the capital and St. Petersburg. Thus, in the two largest Russian cities every megabit per second speed to the user cost about 31 rubles, in Tambov, for example, the figure is 51 ruble.

The speed of Internet access in the regions is still less than in the big cities. The most common access speed in regions 6,4 Mbit / s compared to 16.5 Mbit / s in the major cities.

The audience of mobile internet in Russia is growing much faster than the Internet audience as a whole. So, in January 2012 to the network using mobile devices out of more than 22% of all Russian cities with a population of more than 100,000 people.
