Kenozere — specially protected natural area in the Arkhangelsk region, which has preserved centuries-old history and culture of the Russian North. Kenozere settled on 46 villages with a population of 2.6 million people. Kenozersky landscape — a huge museum of Russian wooden architecture in the open-air arena with up to 60 places of worship.
Here there are also unique to the North ensemble XVII century Porzhenskogo graveyard, surrounded by a wooden fence with towers, and the most compact in Russia chapel "Cross" at the village Tiryshkina and Pochozersky temple ensemble XVII — XVIII centuries, which consists of a tent church Origin Honest Trees of Christ, Church of the Finding of the Head of John the Baptist and the bell tower, the combined dining room and the transitions in the village Filippovskaya.
Total area has about 300 lakes, rivers and streams. Among them are a true gem — Kenozero, which is the most interesting attraction. The process of development of the territory, accompanied by the emergence of new villages in the area Kenozero to the middle of the XVI century, has been completed. And in the next century settlement system here has not changed much.
In 1991, in the southwest of the Arkhangelsk region, near the border with the Republic of Karelia was formed by the National Park "Kenozersky." It was created in order to preserve the natural, historic and cultural complex, rich in architectural monuments with numerous natural attractions.
On the shores of Lake Kenozero born many wonderful Russian folk tales and fairy tales. Kenozerye epic folklore treasure deposited a huge legacy of the 83 surviving epics. It is here at the end of the XIX century was written by a lot of tales about the Russian Knights. At the southern end of the park is the second largest, bright and wide lake Lekshmozero. Not far away, in the town Maselga, there is another unique place — long and narrow rocky ridge.
It is the watershed between the basins of White and Baltic seas. Coniferous forests covering about 1,000 km? the park, make the local air amazingly clean. Flora National Park has about 550 species of plants, many of which are listed in the Red Book. Artists call this region the "Northern Switzerland nineteenth century."
