Today, at a major international exhibition of high-performance computing SC12, held in Salt Lake City, a group of companies DGC — leading in Russia and the CIS developer and integrator "full cycle" of a new generation of supercomputing solutions, demonstrated a prototype of a computer system 10 petaflopsnogo range ( PFLOPS — quintillion operations per second), created in the Joint Supercomputer Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (JSCC).
Joint Supercomputer Center of Russian Academy of Sciences was established in 1999 and today has offices in St. Petersburg and Kazan. The establishment is considered as one of the most powerful supercomputer centers for collective use in Russia in the sphere of science and education. MSC now serves more than 100 organizations in 181 center employs a team of researchers solved more than 900 problems of fundamental and applied orientation.
As representatives of the integrator, the supercomputer MVS-10P-based architecture "RSK Tornado" — is the largest, not only in Russia, but in Europe the system preloaded with the latest coprocessors Intel Xeon Phi. It should be noted that in Salt Lake City, the project has established several records in various categories.
Of course the main achievement of the prototype with liquid cooling and a peak performance of 523,8 TFLOPS (trillion operations per second) is a record for Russia and the CIS level of energy efficiency that exceeds 1,680 megaflops / watt. It should be noted that this figure is 4.8 times higher than the previous record of energy efficiency for the region, which incidentally was also raised by this integrator.
The computing field prototype consists of a 3328 processor cores Intel ® Xeon ® E5-2690 and 25376 coprocessor core Intel Xeon Phi SE10X. Each node supports a large amount of energy-efficient RAM — 64 GB (DDR3-1600, low voltage green memory), which is 4 GB per processing core Intel Xeon and in total 13 terabytes of RAM to the system. In my opinion this power looks impressive.
We should not forget that the high-speed data network in this prototype is based on the advanced technology FDR Infiniband (56 Gb / s). Also, the new supercomputer is equipped with JSCC flexible power management technology "RSK ecosystems", which can further reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) by 25%.
This power management technology was first demonstrated by the group of companies DGC leading European supercomputer ISC’12 exhibition in Hamburg and was first implemented in the supercomputer MVS-10P-based architecture "RSK Tornado".
