The evolution of weapons: TA-82 weapon astronaut

Triple-gun of different calibers to survive in any environment.

Initiated the development of this weapon is Alexei Leonov, who along with Pavel Belyaev in 1965 made the first contingency emergency landing in the forest.
Ordinary MP, a member of the emergency reserve astronaut since Yuri Gagarin’s flight did not allow to solve the problem of survival in extreme conditions.

— All that could be done with the help of "Makarov" — a shoot — with bitter irony that recalls emergency landing Alexei Arkhipovich.

Boris Chertok In his book "Rockets and People" describes a state of emergency "Voskhod-2": "The astronauts spent the night in the woods of Northern Urals. Helicopters only could, that fly over them and report that one chopping wood, and the other puts them in a bonfire. With helicopters dumped them warm clothes and food, but Leonov and Belyaev pull out of the taiga was not possible. " The most dramatic was the situation when the fire came out of the woods hungry bears, and the astronauts did not have a major opportunity to protect themselves from predators … They shot into the air, only arousing their curiosity … By sheer coincidence astronauts did not hurt. Only after a few days on the piste, laid rescuers were able to get to the Mi-4, then moved with his heavier Mi-6 and got to Perm. "

In 1979, Alexei Leonov visited a weapons factory in Tula, where he appealed to the masters of the request to create a new weapon: if the astronauts were on hand multifunction special weapons, said Leonov, we would all feel more confident.
After that, Tula gunsmiths own initiative began to develop a "space weapon."

Development was carried out in three areas: revolver, semi-automatic shotgun, triple-gun. From guns abandoned at once — the weight and size are not allowed to post it in the descent module.
Soon to Star City sent two prototypes: triple-gun and revolver.
Revolver with a different-sized chamber selection committee to weed out at once, and triple-gun, which went under the designation "TA-82" was recommended for improvement and the adoption.
By 1982, under the leadership of the Tula Arms Factory VA Paramonov TA-82 gained its final shape.

Parallel to the development of weapons in Klimovsk TsNIITochmashe for TP-82 to create and explore various options of ammunition. By the end of the technical design for triple-hunting gun was offered a set of three types of ammunition: CH-A, CH-C and CH-P.

According to head of the survival of the Cosmonaut Training Center (CTC) Valeria Trunov, rifle range was nicknamed "Dream of a poacher." In the documents, he appears as SONAZ (Firearms portable emergency).

— Of course, in the forest without TP-82 astronauts can not do. The pistol has a removable butt, which also serves as a machete. There have been cases where some astronauts in two days of survival (it takes so much training in the winter forest — Comm. Aut.) Were cut down a few cubic meters of wood for building shelters and providing firewood, — said in an interview with the head of Alexander Herman workouts.

— We fell asleep inside the gun sand, poured the water that just did — the weapon survived all — says deputy head of the cosmonaut training to survive in extreme conditions CPC Nikolai Filatov. — By the way, at one time, and it was in the early 80’s, when we experienced the gun in Kazakhstan, it was appreciated by the local shepherds. For TA-82 we offer a different barter: flocks of sheep, geese, cans of vodka. One shepherd offered to give even his own wife … "

SONAZ was officially adopted in 1986. In the same year, TP-82 for the first time was in space, they were armed with Soviet cosmonauts joint Soviet-French crew. General public gun T-82 with ammunition was demonstrated at the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy of the USSR "The Way to the Stars", dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight into space.

Release the gun and ammunition was discontinued at the end of the 1980s.
The official version is that the pistols produced enough, and their continued production impractical. As the other gunsmiths, production stopped because of lack of money.

Total according to different sources Tula Arms Factory released from thirty to one hundred and space guns.

In 2007, it was reported that the commander of the sixteenth main mission ISS flight engineer Yuri Malenchenko before the flight into orbit issued a Makarov pistol.
— There was a problem with the ammunition for the TP-82, ended resource cartridges — commented on the situation then deputy head of the Cosmonaut Training Center. Yuri Gagarin Valery Korzun.

Apparently, today the TA-82 is excluded from the emergency reserve.
According to the information given in One of the articles Popular Mechanics, triple-gun position in the third block NAZ taken: a knife, a machete, two PSND (cartridge alarm day / night), PSR-2 rocket and mortars with 20 signal cartridge-stars.

Now Shooting Complex SONAZ as an exhibit can be seen at The Armory Museum Tula Artillery Museum in St. Petersburg, as well as in the exposition
Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow.

Features and ammunition:

Barrel unit TP-82 has three stems. The top two — smooth, chambered 32-gauge. Bottom — rifled bullet chambered for 5,45 x39. Lower barrel adjuster is for zeroing in the form of three screws, two on each side and one at the bottom.

Partially disassembled gun TA-82 is fairly simple. Through a hole in the connecting shaft is pushed the check spring, the opposite side is pushed and the axis of the barrel itself is separated from the master unit. Then forward and down disconnected forearm. In this partially disassembled ends.

Smooth trunks are ordinary extractor which retracts when tilting barrel unit under the influence of two of the pins located on the front of the walls of the inner side pads. Lower barrel has a spring ejector, triggered by pressing a button on the receiver box on the bottom left.

Spring ejector cylinder, located underneath the unit parallel to the trunk trunks. Rear sides barrel block has two projections forming the recesses in the walls of the locking block when the block. Bottom barrel unit is facing to the right hook, which interacts with the tooth pawl for locking block and the tide with a hole for the connecting shaft.
The tide has a longitudinal slot for shank forearm. Connecting shaft is hollow. To protect against falling axis is inserted into the opening of the spring pin in the shape of the fungus. Connecting shaft serves as the axis of rotation with tilting barrel unit. Under the barrel unit is located forearm. Cover forearm — wood with a notch. The fore-end has a hook shank and a vertical plate with an opening for the connecting shaft. Forend hook is attached to the pin located on the site zeroing rifled barrel and fixed connective axis o
f the shank.

Block is used to connect all parts of the gun. Front pads through hole for attaching the connecting axle. Bottom handle is having wood from the notch.
Behind the block has two external trigger. Right Trigger serves right barrel. Left trigger, depending on the switch position, either the left serves trunk or the lower threaded. The switch is located on the left side of the pad over the handle and has two positions marked on the block letters "B" and "H" (the upper trunk / lower trunk).

Ejection 5.45mm cartridge happens when you press the ejector button (indicated by the arrow)

If the switch is located inside the shoe lever is either the upper or lower position. Accordingly, the impact of the left trigger is transmitted either the upper left or lower the hammer. Left trigger has a front surface of the cutout for the transmission lever. Martial spring hammers — cylindrical, arranged parallel to the axis of barrel unit on the side pads. The front ends of rods mainspring on the lower surface, and have a fighting-cock.

In the cut-out, indicated by the arrow when locking is a locking bar (latch)

Release lever located under the rods and swinging on the cross axes. Sear located on the front shoulders of the sear. Rear shoulder triggers levers interact with the rear shoulder trigger: left — right, right — through doggie trigger. One axis of the left trigger arm located selector hammer having general with it a spring working in torsion.

Unlocking lever is pressed with the thumb

When cocked left trigger cam on the lower surface of the left rod-down selector diverts back. Press the selector pawl back the trigger. The dog comes out from under the rear sear right shoulder. Thus, if the hammer is cocked left, pressing the trigger pas made the descent from the left cocking the hammer (a sequence of "left-right"). Kurki have a "lights out", the statement guaranteeing the hammer at half-cock when not pressed the trigger.

When unlocking the gate locking bar (see arrow) is shifted to the right

The trigger — one for all three of the barrel. Selection of the appropriate trunk to make raising the hammer and installing an interpreter. The trigger has a rear spring-loaded pawl which engages with the right trigger lever. The dog is under the influence of a spring forward position. When you press the trigger raised rear shoulders sear: only left when the hammer is cocked left, or both. Front Shoulder trigger lever is lowered, releasing the trigger with cocking, is shot. The trigger has a vertical blade adjacent to the right side of the pad. When you press the trigger blade enters the cut-latch barrel unit, preventing the latch from opening while pressing the trigger.

When fully closed barrel unit, if the latch has not taken the extreme left, the blade misses the cut and prevents pressing the trigger. Circuit breaker located on the handle under the trigger guard and trigger locks, for which the trigger blade has a special hook (part of the issued pistol has a circuit breaker). Turns off guard with the right hand grip coverage.
The spring-loaded latch barrel unit is located across the pads on the handle. The latch has a tooth that interacts with the hook barrel unit and swing arm, controlled by thumb of his right (shooting) hand. When you press the lever to the left tail of the latch moves to the right, freeing the block trunks and preventing pulling the trigger.
The sighting device constant consists of a front sight on the barrel unit and the rear sight on the block.
Towards the bottom of the pistol can be attached addl butt as a machete. Machete may be used as a sapper shovels. Release latch located on the handle butt machete. Butt has a back plate, the latch bolt on the blade machete. Machete has a cover on an "Velcro".

View pads on with removed barrel unit 1 and 2 — Stocks mainspring. 3 — right back shoulder sear 4 — pawl trigger, 5 — selector 6 trigger blade. 7 — latch barrel unit. Left hammer is cocked, the piston rod left the mainspring is in the forward position. Doggie trigger assigned to the selector back and removed from under the rear right shoulder trigger. The left trigger is visible cutout for the gear lever

For the weapon used specially designed TsNIITochmash cartridges (in their creation participated PF Sazonov (head), KV Smekaev, VM Bobrov, M. E. Fedorov, VI Babkin, GP Shamin, VI Polchenkov, M. Lysenko, etc.).

A set of three types of ammunition:

Shotshell CH-D (based on the 32-caliber hunting). 12.5 mm shotshell CH-D equivalent to the standard cartridge hunting 20th (15.9-mm) caliber lead shot number 3, used in shotgun with a barrel length of 700 mm.

Bullet cartridge CH-P (poluobolochennaya bullet 5.45 x 40 mm with a steel core and a hole in the nozzle to enhance the expansive action previously used with a soft lead bullet nose). Area (large) loss to Chuck CH-P is 8-10 times greater, indicators of bullet cartridge automata 7N6 5.45 mm.

Signal cartridge CH-C (also on the basis of hunting). Significantly superior to the previously used 15-mm patron7S8 by burning time signal checkers.
The design of these weapons have been provided to ensure tightness can continue to work after a long stay at a low pressure and in a vacuum.
