The first working model of the exoskeleton for storm troopers and

rescue officers

The exhibition "Innovation Day of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation", a group of Russian scientists unveiled the first working model of the exoskeleton ExoAtlet P-1 is designed for shock troops and rescue officers.

Exoskeleton passive modification ExoAtlet P developed by a Russian Research Institute of Mechanics, Moscow State University scientists in the framework of the State contract № 07.524.11.4012. The result of development work under the state contract was the creation of Russia’s first working example of passive exoskeleton modification ExoAtlet P, which allows the human operator to carry heavy loads (70-100 lbs.).

The following modification of the exoskeleton — ExoAtlet P-1 — is designed to relieve the soldiers when carrying assault shield. The design of this version of the exoskeleton is equipped with a device for fixing and quick removal of the shield, which is extremely important during the fighting. Using this arrangement, in addition to ease the burden on the soldier, he freed his hands for combat. Weight 35 kg shield — most of the weight rests on the design of the exoskeleton.

According to the developers of the project, the focus of future development will be on the active version of the exoskeleton, the construction of which has already been developed and is in the process control system debugging. An important task is to develop ergonomic "hands" — this is one of the key objectives of the next phase of development for both the active and the passive versions of the exoskeleton. In solving many of these tasks developers will use advances in fields such as engineering mechanics, control theory, mathematical modeling.

Developed in the course of the project "EkzoAtlet" hardware and software system must be designed:

  • for removing debris during rescue operations and management of natural or technological disasters, when the fire-fighting operations at the limited supply of air in the respiratory apparatus;
  • to help people with disabilities and transportation bedridden patients;
  • for construction work and to solve problems, followed by carrying heavy loads over long distances;
  • for mine clearance and conducting anti-terrorist operations.

In many industrialized countries for a long time are being developed in the field of exoskeletons and has demonstrated operating models. In our country, work in this area began in the Soviet Union, then they were suspended and resumed only at the end of 2011.

By the time the Research Institute of Mechanics, Moscow State University has been established for the first time in the world of mobile autonomous hexapod machine, two-legged walking machine and a number of wheeled robots. These robots were built by intelligent control algorithms. A number of these developments is protected by patents.
