The January crude steel production in Ukraine has shown a slight increase

As reported in association "Metallurgprom" (Dnepropetrovsk), the total production of steel in Ukraine in January 2013 decreased by 1% compared to the same period last year — up to 2.524 million tons. At the same time, steel production increased by 1% — to 2,845 million tons, pig iron — also by 1%, to 2.497 million tons. Production of pipes in the reporting month decreased by 47% — up to 94 thousand tons of coke — by 7%, to 1.525 million tons, while metal products increased by 6% — up to 17 thousand tons. Supplies of scrap metal for metallurgical enterprises decreased by 13% — up to 254 thousand tons.

Mining companies in January 2013 actually saved mine iron ore at the first month of 2012 — 6,718 million tons, but reduced the production of iron ore concentrate to 1% — to 5,581 million tons. In addition, the decreased production of prepared iron ore — by 7% to 5,324 million tons, including agglomerate — by 3% to 3,679 million tons, pellets — by 15% to 1.645 million tons.

Earlier, Ukrainian steelmakers plan in January of this year to increase steel production by 4.2% compared with the volume of production in December 2012 — up to 2.760 million tons, the total production of rolled products — by 6.3% to 2.520 million tons, pig iron — by 5.8% to 2.540 million tons.

As reported, Ukraine in 2012 reduced the total production of steel by 9% compared with the previous year — up to 28,957 tons of steel — by 7% to 32,394 million tons, iron — by 1%, to 28.513 million tons.

In 2013, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises plan to increase the total production of steel by 6.4% compared with the expected figures for 2012 — up to 31 million tons of steel — by 5.6%, to 34.4 million tons, iron — 4 , 6%, to 29.9 million tons. In turn, the experts GP "Ukrpromvneshekspertiza" believe that Ukrainian steelmakers in 2013, having increased steel production by 3% — to 33.7 million tons.
