The new production of acrylates in Russia

"Gazprom Salavat Petrochemical" has signed an agreement with Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. with the support of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and the Japanese trading house Sojitz Corporation for a license and basic engineering of the complex of acrylic acid.

The new complex will be located on the territory of "monomer" of "Gazprom Salavat Petrochemical." It will include the production of crude acrylic acid capacity of 80,000 tons per year, butyl acrylate (an acrylic acid and butanol), capacity 80,000 tons per year and an ice acrylic acid capacity of 35,000 tons per year. Due to the unique technology of "Gazprom Salavat Petrochemical" all raw material base for the new complex is located in the same industrial site (that compounds such as propylene, butanol, styrene) that the use of the latest technology for producing acrylic acid and acrylates of Mitsubishi, can significantly increase the efficiency and competitiveness of production.

The designed capacity of the new complex in OAO "Gazprom Salavat Petrochemical" is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2015. The future plans of the company — the development of recycling of acrylic acid and acrylates in two major ways.

One of them — the production of paints water-dispersion paints with a broad range of specific properties such as excellent adhesion to brick and concrete, wood, metal and other materials, high water resistance and UV resistance. As a second course of getting selected superabsorbent (moisture-absorbing materials), which are used in the manufacture of personal care products, as well as in other branches of industry and agriculture (Drought soils).

Acrylic acid and esters thereof used in the manufacture of a wide variety of polymeric materials (acrylic dispersions and paints, latices, copolymers adhesive compositions superabsorbents) are used in various industries.
