ZAO "Transmashholding" and the Ministry of Railways of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan signed on Monday, October 1, the Memorandum of Understanding, which is intended to form the basis of cooperation between the Russian machine builders and Pakistani railway workers.
Document was signed by Secretary of the Ministry, the Chairman of Pakistan Railways Muhammad Arif Azim and Managing Director TransMashHolding Shukhrat Makhmudov.
Arrangements entered informed the Prime Minister of Pakistan Raja Pervez Ashraf.
According to the document, the parties have agreed to work together to identify railway projects in which Pakistan might be interested in the Russian production company, and TransMashHolding — investment and transfer of technology. To coordinate activities under the memorandum will be established oversight committee, which is expected to hold meetings at least once a year.
"Pakistan — a new market for TransMashHolding", — said S. Mahmudov. — "We are ready to offer the most advanced technology to colleagues, which can significantly improve the efficiency of the transportation system. Sincerely hope that our cooperation will be long and effective."
The first railway line in the territory of modern Pakistan was built in 1858. Currently, the total length of railways in the country is 7791 km of electrified lines — 293 km. Used several standard gauge, the most common — a width of 1676 mm and 1000 mm.
