Ukraine intends to join the Common Economic Space

The decision fixing the intention of Ukraine to participate in the processes of Eurasian integration, was signed today. According to the Russian presidential adviser Sergei Glazyev, it eliminates the possibility of Ukraine’s joining the European Union.

The agreement also involves the participation of Ukraine as an observer in the work of the Eurasian Economic Union on January 1, 2015. Until that time, the representatives of this country will be able to participate in such bodies of the European Economic Area, as the Supreme European Economic Council, the European Economic Commission and the boards of the European Economic Commission. 

The memorandum, which allows Ukraine to participate as an observer in the work of the Common Economic Space (it includes Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan) and the Single Economic Commission will sign 31 May 2013. in Minsk at the level of heads of government, told reporters the first Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov.

Shuvalov said that the charter documents of the Customs Union and Common Economic Space does not provide for observer status. At the same time, he added that such a possibility can occur if the appropriate changes in these statutes.
