Kiyani invented a new veterinary drug. Its effects have already checked on pig farms. It helps to avoid the loss of calves at weaning from sows and makes it easier to gain weight animals
Kiev National University named after Taras Shevchenko State Scientific Control Institute of Biotechnology and strains of microorganisms registered a new veterinary drug "melawe." The preparation is based on melanin — the active substance isolated from Antarctic black yeast. As the press service of the State Agency on Science, Innovations and Informatization in the experimental groups of animals, which were added to the feed preparation, first recorded the complete absence of the death of the young at weaning from sows, secondly, the animals gained weight better.
Extremely high activity of melanin, which is part of the drug, have been linked with the extreme conditions of the existence of black yeast, of which it is made. They are planted from samples collected on vertical cliffs on Galindez Island (Ukrainian Antarctic station "Academician Vernadsky"), over which the ozone hole. As a result of the evolution of black yeast, being constantly under the influence of strong ultraviolet radiation, have developed the ability to synthesize melanin in large numbers with unique antioxidant, radio and fotoprotektornymi properties. Therefore, among the well-known melanin different origin is the most active melanin Antarctic origin.
Now scientists are exploring the melanin in order to register the drug as a drug for humans, reports
