MOSCOW, April 4 — RIA Novosti. The crews of the new air group of fighter-interceptor MiG-31BM have taken up for combat duty in air defense industrial facilities of the Novosibirsk region, said on Thursday the Defense Ministry.
"The deployment of additional duty forces and means associated with increased air group, responsible for the safety of the airspace of Siberia" — noted the agency. Previously, the sky over the Novosibirsk guarded by a special fighter-aviation unit based in Omsk, but in 1998 it was disbanded.
Fighter-interceptor MiG-31BM are equipped with new weapons control system, thus increasing the detection range of up to 320 kilometers, and the range of fire — up to 280 kilometers. The commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Central Military District, Major General Victor Sevostianov previously reported that in 2020 CVO air units will be transferred to new and upgraded aircraft equipment by more than 70%.
