Soon India will equip K-15 missiles with nuclear warheads nuclear submarine INS Arihant its construction.
India has conducted several successful test launches of missiles K-15 with a pontoon platform Visakhapatnam coast. Informed sources at the defense research and development (DRDO) said that all the tests K-15 missiles with a range of 700 km and completed their creation has already begun.
After the U.S., Russia, France and China, India will become the fifth state, has the technology of underwater launch nuclear missiles. «This development is complex, since the missile is launched from the water with a managed platform (submarine). So Makar, safety crew on board is of prime importance. Safety and reliability must be very high, «the sources added.
«Arihant» will carry 12 missiles K-15. Not counting the «Arihant», which was built at the naval dockyard in Visakhapatnam, India is building two more nuclear submarines and their body currently being made in Vadodara.
After starting from the water 10-meter missile K-15 rises to a height of 20 km and covers a distance of 700 km. Under water K-15 is pushed by the gas generator. Reactor «Arihant» will be commissioned by the end of the year, said the sources.
«Arihant» works by 80 MW nuclear reactor, which uses uranium as fuel and light water as a coolant. Enriched uranium was made at a factory in nearby Ratnahalli from Mysore.
Nuclear power plant «Arihant» is similar to a light water reactor, commissioned in Kalpakkam. Reactor at Kalpakkam also has a power of 80 MW and is used for training naval crews, which will be equipped with «Arihant» and other nuclear submarines under construction.
DRDO is also developing a missile submarine K-4 launch, which will have a range of 3,000 km. First flight test of the K-4 will be carried out recently with underwater pontoon in Visakhapatnam.
With the adoption by the K series of missiles in India will form a triad of nuclear deterrence. Agni missile series grouping form ground, Su-30 and Mirage 2000 — aviation.
