Winter season brings famine in parts of Afghanistan because of the summer drought Weather and Climate
More than 2 million Afghans in the coming months will be in severe starvation without the possibility to get support. In winter, cut off from any assistance are usually mountainous areas. This year, 14 provinces were not able to provide enough wheat because of severe drought. In some provinces, the crop was completely destroyed. As a result, 90% of families are forced to live on credit, as food prices increased by 2 times. But hunger lies ahead without the possibility to get help, because the stocks of food are small, and the snow is more difficult to access these regions.
