T-90 in Peru

T-90 will compete with "Abrams", "Leopard 2", T-64 and T-84

Aboard the heavy transport aircraft An-124 "Ruslan" in Jorge Chavez International Airport (Lima) delivered the main battle tank (MBT) T-90S.

This tank will be on display during the IV International Exhibition of Defence Technology and disaster prevention SITDEF-2013, reports defensa.com May 10.

Then the tank will be transferred to the operational test and evaluation in the 18th Tank Brigade, stationed in Rimac.

At the first stage, the T-90S will be tested for reliability and throughput (moving over rough terrain, on the highway at full speed, to overcome vertical obstacles and ditches).

The tank will shoot at targets located at a distance of 2500 m

Tank manufactured by the Russian company "Uralvagonzavod" (crew of three people) will surely attract the attention of visitors SITDEF-2013.

The length of the tank, 6.86 m (gun forward 9.36 m), width 3.78 m, height 2.22 m, weight 46.5 tons, is equipped with a diesel engine in 9252, 1000 hp, top speed of 60 km / h, range 550-700 km.

The main armament 125 mm smoothbore gun 2A46M (42 projectile ammunition, rate of 7 rds / min and is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 2500 m), the auxiliary armament consists of a 12.7 mm machine gun NSVT (300 rounds) and a 7.62 mm machine gun ( 2,000 rounds).

In addition, the tank is equipped with anti-tank missiles 9M119M "Reflex" (AT-11 Sniper) laser-guided (with a range from 75 m to 5000 m). Weight 24 kg projectiles, rockets, about 17 kg (weight of 4.2 kg warhead, armor over 900 mm).

Peru Army program Ugarte plans to purchase 120 to 170 tanks, which should replace the obsolete T-55, set in 1973-1978.

The competition will take part:

  • U.S. M1A1 Abrams
  • German Leopard-2A4 (proposed by Spain)
  • German Leopard-2E6 (suggested by the Netherlands)
  • Ukrainian T-64E
  • Ukrainian T-84 "Hold"
