The price of religious councils the Hasidim

This week has come to an end in a high-profile case of Nehemiah Vebermana — a member of the orthodox Satmar Hasidic community, based in Williamsburg (Brooklyn). The court found him guilty of pedophilia and sentenced to 103 years in prison.

The trial of Vebermanom began in December last year. Then, the investigation found that for three years he engaged in a sexual relationship with an underage girl who approached him for religious advice (Nehemiah worked in the Hasidic community consultant). At the time of the commission of the first crime victim pedophile was only 12 years old.

The main witness in the trial made the victim, who is now 18 years old (her name, however, the result is not disclosed). For several days, she talked about the abuse by a pedophile teacher.

The trial of Vebermanom accompanied by numerous actions in his defense. Many religious Hasidim did not believe that respected in the community counselor can be a pedophile. Some activists have started to collect funds to support it. The court, however, acknowledged Vebermana guilty on all counts.
