Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK), one of the world's largest manufacturers of tubular products for the oil and gas industry, has shipped batch of seamless line pipes for the offshore project of NautilusMinerals. TMK products will be used in the project to develop the massive sulphide deposits in the bottom sediments of the Bismarck Sea (Papua New Guinea).
The pipes were manufactured at the Volga Pipe Plant (VPP), a part of TMK. VPP — Russia's first certified manufacturer of seamless line pipe of high strength X80QO standard APISpec. 5L/ISO 3183, intended for the construction of subsea pipelines. TMK products delivered to the company GeneralMarineContractors (Houston, USA) for welding and installation of the pipeline system.
Massive sulfides are the product of volcanic activity, which contains a compound of copper, zinc, gold, silver and other metals in concentrations suitable for industrial processing.
Company NautilusMinerals — a pioneer of deep sea stocks of massive sulphides. The project Solvara-1 (Solwara 1), the developer of a company which involves extraction of raw materials from a depth of 1,600 meters. It is expected that he will be the first project of its kind in the world.
Technology development of the field of massive sulphides includes crushing rock bottom with a remotely operated vehicles, transportation of mineral raw materials in the form of a slurry pipeline to the vessel, where it undergoes primary treatment and then transported to the enrichment capacity.
"PMC for the first time released a seamless line pipe of strength class X80. Previously, such products not produced in Russia. This creates good prerequisites for the successful participation of the company in tenders for the supply of equipment for the most complex offshore projects — said General Director of TMK Alexander Shiryaev. — Delivery of our products for deepwater projects in mining from the bottom of the Bismarck Sea strengthens the reputation of TMK as a global supplier of high-quality steel pipes can expand the market for products and take a favorable position in the market of suppliers of equipment for such projects.
