According to the results of metallurgical enterprises in January 2013 Ukraine reduced steel production by 4.4% compared with January 2012. The country is thus took 9th place in the ranking of 62 countries — the world's major manufacturers of these products, compiled by the World Steel Association (WSA). In December 2012 Ukraine took 10th place in the ranking.

The top ten countries producing steel in January of this year is as follows:

  • China — 59.339 million tons (up 4.6%),
  • Japan — 8.865 million tonnes (up 2.7%),
  • USA — 7.26 million tons (down 5.8%),
  • India — 6.6 million tons (up 3.8%),
  • South Korea — 5,751 million tons (down 0.4%),
  • Russia — 5.705 million tons (down 5.7%),
  • Germany — 3,55 million tons (up 5.4%),
  • Turkey — 2,859 million tons (down 8.8%),
  • Ukraine — 2.748 million tons (down 4.4%),
  • Brazil — 2.62 million tons (down 6.1%).

In general, in January of this year, 62 countries have produced 124.799 million tons of steel, which is 0.8% more than the year before.

In 2012, 62 countries have produced 1,517.945 million tons of steel output increased by 1.2% compared with 2011.

In December, November, October, September, August and July 2012, Ukraine ranked 10th place in the ranking of WSA, in June — 9th place in May, April, March and February 2012 — 10th place in January -2012 year — 9th.
