Ukraine increases gas production offshore in the Black Sea

In January-September 2012, the GAO Chernomorneftegaz increased production of natural gas compared to the same period last year by 14.7%, or 108 million cubic meters.

As the press service of the company, in just nine months were produced 843 million cubic meters. The main increase was obtained in the third quarter — after due to active work on the shelf company crossed the historic peak daily production of oil fields in the Black Sea — 3 million cubic meters. In July-September Chernomorneftegaz extracted 300.9 million cubic meters, up 18.2%, or 46 million cubic meters more than the same period in 2011.

Even more significant increase in production in the CHERNOMORNEFTEGAZ expected after the commissioning of the Odessa Nameless and gas fields.

The company also noted that due to the capabilities of high-tech jack-up rig, the first of which — Peter Godovanets — started on June 1, the second will start him in the fourth quarter of this year, gas production in 2012 expected to reach 1.17 billion cubic meters, while in the next — is 1.65 billion cubic meters. The growth of 500 million cubic meters, accounting for a quarter of the annual gas consumption in the Crimea will be carried out through the continued development of the Odessa Nameless and gas fields using high-tech jack-up rig.

Recall Energy Minister Yuriy Boyko said that the main priority of Ukraine on the way to improve energy independence is to increase domestic production of gas, including by attracting international investors.

Earlier, Royal Dutch Shell Plc and Chevron Corp. already won the rights to produce hydrocarbons in Ukraine. Besides the state offers a license to the Scythian and Foros areas in the Black Sea. Thus Ukraine is trying to reduce its dependence on Russian gas imports.
