U.S. Navy have all the chances in the coming years to position the laser gun on certain types of warships (BC). This conclusion is contained in a report posted U.S. Congressional Research Service (Navy Shipboard Lasers for Surface, Air, and Missile Defense: Background and Issues for Congress).
According to the report, the Pentagon’s work in the field of research have gained high-level combat lasers, which allows to counteract certain types of surface (SC) and air targets (CC) at a distance of about 1.5 km and begin their deployment on warships (BC) in a couple of years. More powerful shipboard lasers, which will be ready for deployment in the coming years, will provide the U.S. Navy surface ships BC opportunity to counter SC and LC at distances of about 16 km. These lasers can not considering other tasks, provide missile defense for BC at the final step against certain types of ballistic missiles, including the latest Chinese ballistic anti-ship missile ASBM (anti-ship ballistic missile).
