Experimental area of high-speed road ballastless

In December 2010, on the road ferrying Sablino II — Tosno line St. Petersburg — Moscow stowed 1 km pilot area ballastless track.
Experimental plot laid by German technology and under the supervision of German experts.

In designs ballastless path element of the permanent way — Ballast — replaced the base plate of concrete, evenly distributing the load. On a plate stacked rails using elastic elements. The main advantage of ballastless way is to significantly reduce the amount of work on the current content.

Experience in operating areas with ballastless by Germany and other countries have shown that its use as appropriate:

1. in the tunnels length of about 500 m, subject to the geological conditions.
2. in curves, where it can be installed with the rise of the outer rail by about 25% bolshim than on the road on the ballast. This is one of the major advantages of ballastless track. Due to this motion of trains in the same speed range of the curve radius may be smaller than in the section on the ballast path. This has several advantages:
a) The lines are better for the terrain;
b) decreases the negative impact on the surrounding landscape;
c) facilitated construction of new and reconstruction of existing lines;
g) decreases the length of man-made structures (tunnels and bridges);
e) increases economic efficiency ballastless path compared to the path on the ballast.

A necessary condition for laying ballastless way to the subgrade is the maximum stability and compressibility of his material. This condition is much easier to accomplish in a mountainous area, it should be noted that in Japan so far avoided the path laid ballastless on embankments.

Institute "Lengiprotrans" was at the forefront of the first high-speed railway project from Moscow to St. Petersburg, as a general project organization, so when the competition will be announced on the development of the project, our institution in a consortium with partners will be eligible to perform this work. Given that the area of high-speed and high-speed movement abroad in the past 15 years much has changed, our institute had to study the experience of Germany, France and Spain for many design and technical solutions in the design study.

Of course, Russia does not have experience in making high-speed rail. But the technology ballastless way designed for high speeds, and in Europe there was only 15-20 years ago. In cooperation with our German partners, we have paved the experimental site.
