FUTURE WITHOUT AFAR IMPOSSIBLE — EUROFIGHTER

FUTURE WITHOUT AFAR IMPOSSIBLE - EUROFIGHTER
Participants in the consortium Eurofighter Typhoon fighter producing England, Germany, Italy and Spain will not be able to get export orders in the future if you do not agree to finance the development of airborne radar with active electronically scanned array (AESA), June 5 aviationweek.com reports citing a statement by the Senior Vice president of Selex (comes in group Finmeccanica) Chris Bushell (Chris Bushell).

Potential clients «Typhoon», such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), claimed that these fighters were equipped with radar AFAR, and not with ordinary mechanical scanning. In 2011, the countries of the consortium agreed in principle to create one radar, but an agreement was delayed due to the upcoming elections in Germany. Consortium insists on concluding the contract during the second half of 2014.

Bushell said that such an agreement is necessary to assure the UAE as «extremely demanding customer» that fighters will be delivered «in the terms that they require.»

The problem with the lack of radar AFAR led to the fact that last year the consortium has lost 20 billion U.S. dollars, losing Indian tender to purchase 126 fighters functional. India elected the French Rafale, assessing it as a more desirable candidate.

As expected, the United Arab Emirates last year to sign an agreement for the purchase of «Rafale», but the deal stalled when authorities Emirates said that the contract terms are not competitive, giving the consortium «Eurofighter» try their luck again.

Compared with mechanically scanned radar (such station antenna scans place mechanical movement of the antenna) radar AFAR able to work much faster with the introduction of technology differences electrical beam.

The consortium plans to start testing the newest radar in the first quarter of 2014, serial radars can enroll for export in 2017. Currently, the consortium has orders from Saudi Arabia and Oman.
