American Photographs Completes 75 Years

The iconic book, Walker Evans: American Photographs recently celebrated its 75th anniversary.

The book features striking images of American life in the 20th century and to commemorate this milestone, the Museum of Modern Art is planning to bring it back into print.

Besides this, the book will also be accompanied by an exhibition.

Walker Evans had the distinction of being the first person to have his own solo show at the Museum of Modern Art. American Photographs was first published in 1938. Although it was not the first photography book to be published, it broke new grounds in the manner in which the pictures and text were laid out, which further added meaning to Walker Evans’ work.
