THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR WHEN SEVEN OUT OF 10 OF US WILL DECIDE TO MAKE SWEEPING CHANGES. HERE’S WHY…
Why is it that when you get back from your summer holiday you often feel more restless than relaxed? Whether it’s to do with your career, relationship or home life, this is when we’re most likely to make big life changes. According to life coach Matthew Reed, after some 16 years of school and uni, we seem to have developed an inbuilt ‘seasonal reset button’. «We mentally brace ourselves for the unexpected, even if we’re not entirely sure what we want to change,» he says. «But because we’re so prepared for some kind of change, this is the optimum time to shake up your life for the better.»
KICK-START YOUR CAREER
Recruitment picks up in autumn, says JT O’Donnell from Careerrealism.com, so use the summer months to get ahead of the crowd.
In a relationship? «A post-summer slump could make you think your relationship is lacking,» says Kate Taylor of Match.com. «Avoid rash decisions and work on how you feel about yourself.» Single? Internet dating spikes now, meaning it’s a good time to start! (So check out our flow chart, right.)
MAKE A MOVE
Miles Shipside, director at Rightmove, explains that there are more houses and flats available to rent at the end of summer as the student terms influence property availability. Buying? You’ll have enough time to be in for Christmas. Perfect.
