New varieties of apple for the Khabarovsk Territory

Breeder’s Far East Research Institute of Agriculture AV Bolonyaevym for Khabarovsk Krai derived many varieties of apples and pears. Since 1952, in the fruit and berry nursery named AV Lukashev, located on the outskirts of the city of Khabarovsk, we experience more than 20 new varieties of apple of his selection.

These observations showed that the number of varieties should be widely disseminated. In the southern districts of the region, they have proved hardy enough and sooner come into fruition, for example, varieties of Amur yields, Kitaika east, pouring Amur Amur Repka. They are 2-3 times more superior to yield old apple varieties cultivated Efremov number 1 and tasty. Trademarks and taste of the fruit is also much better. These qualities make the new varieties are not inferior to the best table varieties of the European part of the USSR. Almost all of the new varieties are highly resistant to scab.

Since 1947, in a nursery grown and sold in the province more than 250 thousand seedlings of new varieties. They are grown on farms Vyazemsky, Khabarovsk, Komsomolsk and Birobidzhan industrial departments of the Khabarovsk Territory.

Of the tested apple varieties zoned The August Amur and crop yield (described in the journal «Gardening» №8 and 10 of 1962), the most promising: Kitaika east, pouring Amur, ridge (Fig.), Reinette Far East, Repka Amur, Far East early.

In recent years, experience, and multiply other new varieties of precocity, Antonivka East, Khekhtsirski, Aborigine. Many varieties are described in the book of AV Bolonyaeva «Fruit culture of the Far East»; grade is poured Amur, precocity and Antonivka East are characterized as follows.

Pouring Amur. Resulting in pollination of Ranetka purple mixture of large-fruited varieties of pollen culture.

Productivity is high and stable. Harvest from five-seven-year trees 30-45 kilograms. Enough winter hardy. The fruit ripens in mid-September, are stored until the end of November. Fruits averages, in shape and size similar to the fruits varieties Amur yields, chartreuse coloring with an orange blush on the sunny side. The flesh is fine-grained, tender. The taste is very pleasant, sour-sweet. By the nature of the pulp and taste (after a fruit storage) grade similar to anise.

The variety is resistant to scab, and with a relatively high immunity to monilial burns.

Precocity. In the fruiting comes on the third year after planting. The harvest of trees with four-year 2.5 kilograms, five-year -4. Winter hardiness is high.

The fruit ripens in early August. Consumer maturity comes immediately after the removal of fruit. The strength of attachment of the fruit is good. Kept fresh up to 10-15 days.

Fruits averages, weighing 25 grams, round with striped blush over the surface. The flesh is juicy, pleasant taste of sweet wine.

East Antonovka. Obtained by crossing varieties Efremov number 1 and Antonivka polutorafuntovaya. This is the first new winter variety, which inherited many features of grade Antonovka.

The average yield of five-year trees with 2 kilograms, the largest — 6.2. Winter hardiness is good.

In the context of Khabarovsk, the fruit ripens in late September. Stored until January. Fruits averages, weighing 30 grams, lined, painting straw with a blush on the sunny side. The flesh is fine-grained, juicy, taste wine and sweet.

Many new varieties of apple trees in the young plantations occupy 50 percent or more; in the coming years, they will spread more widely, as the fruit of standard varieties Ranetok very poor quality, and polukulturny — Efremov number 1 in quality and delicious inferior to the best new varieties.
