ALL beekeepers are well aware of how much time-consuming and cause trouble as hives preparation for transport: strengthening the framework, closing the tap hole, clogging hives on top of the grid or the lap, and the like. US beekeepers working in large apiaries, each hive can not be given so much time. Therefore hives never prepared for transport. They are equipped with Hoffmann frames and between them is not necessary to put spacers. Roofs (always flat) remain in the hive. If the truck has a crane that lifts the body of the hive, the bottom is attached to the body wide straps. The manual loading is not necessary.
Most interesting is that the tap hole during transport bees remain open to all. width. Loading of hives can be made only between sunset and sunrise. With this method of transportation of bees do not need to fear that they suffocate or cell would stop because of excess heat. If the temperature in the hive still rises above the optimum, the bees will come through the entrance is open to the outside.

To test this system in our conditions, we held in the Department of beekeeping experience major agricultural school in Skierniewice.
In Skierniewice we took for transportation Dadant hives from which lifted only sloping roof, as well as Polish hives from which the roof is removed. Do not deprive Polish beehives and migratory board. This was done to ensure that the next hive entrance is not eclipsed. Lethke were open and without nets. Hives with bees loaded after sunset and left overnight in a truck in the apiary. We went at about 4 am on the heath, is 25 kilometers away. The road went through a forest and was in poor condition, so the truck had to wage a slow, but despite this, the bees flew. At dawn we arrived and unloaded the hives.
Returning to the heath, we loaded the hives at sunset and immediately moved to Skierniewice. Then he left them in the truck and in the morning when it was light, unloaded. Transportation to and the other side was very good.
When I first told the department that we will carry the hives with open tap holes, all decided that I schuchu. But now all the staff say that in no other way to transport the bees will not be. Trainee College of beekeeping, who were with us at the time, said that opening the tap hole bee stung them less than a college apiary where hives are transported to the tap holes closed.
So we see that in our conditions, the above-described method of transportation of bees passed the exam.
